Hi, I'm Faye Boutin-Hecktor, founder of In the Black Soil and Plant Services. My journey in agriculture is rooted deep in Alberta soil, growing up near Carbon as a country girl with an enduring love for nature and farming. It was at Y Not Goats LTD, learning alongside my father, Ron Boutin, that my passion for soil and plant health truly came alive, absorbing his practical, results-driven philosophy of maximizing output while optimizing inputs. To build on this invaluable hands-on experience, I earned my diploma from Olds College, am currently working towards my Bachelor of Science, and practice as an Agronomist in Training. I started "In the Black" to bring this dedicated, personalized approach directly to fellow Alberta farmers, offering expert consulting in crop production, pasture management, and navigating opportunities like Carbon Assets and RDAR programs, all with one core goal: helping your farm thrive and achieve lasting profitability.

James

Meet James, a dedicated steward of the land with an unwavering passion for farming. From a very young age, he worked the family fields in the Camrose area. He worked as a farm hand out of high school and spent 25 years in the pipe manufacturing and Oil/Gas sectors.

Eventually leading him and his wife to owning and operating both their family farms. James understands that soil health is the foundation of successful agriculture, emphasizing the importance of minimizing inputs while maximizing yields to maintain profitability. For James, it is about doing the right things for the right reasons while leading with honesty and integrity.
